Ecuador, mi amigos

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

A message from Jaquelyn “Nutty Steph” Rieke who has just returned from researching our Ecuadorian Chocolate:

I am humbled to have felt the hot air and trod the thick jungle floor of small family farms, “fincas,” on the Ecuadorean coast in the province of Esmeraldas. It is good to observe lives that inspire in me a slow peaceful agreement with the land, my family and my work. Thank you to Aprocane, “the Association of cacao with the fine aroma” for welcoming me to your meeting. Thank you to Ecuatoriana de Chocolates and Augustin for your delicious export chocolate and to Ecuador for All tours for the depth of your knowledge.

I have much to write about Ecuador: The chocolate industry, the cacao plant, its spirit, its keepers, the propagation of the wild Criollo variety; Gender relations, the president of Aprocane, whose name is pronounced “BEER HINI YA”, spelled Virginia, and the re-instatement of a formerly corrupt Esmeraldas port of trade; Race relations, and the 3 regions of Ecuador: the coastal lowlands, the highlands in the Andes’ foothills, the Amazonian East.
Many stroies to come. You heard it here, compliments of Nutty Steph’s curious little american chocolate company that could.
